This special trip takes you to the historic Jantar Mantar observatories of northern India. They house the world’s largest astronomical instruments for sky surveying. In the form of monumental buildings and facilities, they were an important part of the power architecture of Maharajas Jai Singh II. In India, we experience one of the oldest and greatest cultures and at the same time our own Indo-European origins.
The journey begins in New Delhi with a rickshaw ride through the legendary Silver Street and many other sights of the capital. The next destination is Agra with the famous Taj Mahal and the Red Fort. Jaipur awaits us with the large astronomical monumental buildings of the Jantar Mantar observatory, picturesque palaces and an elephant ride to the Amber Fort. At the end of this special trip, the tour goes on to the Himalayas. The holy places of Haridwar and Rishikesh, located at the exit of the Ganges, are the real cradle of Hinduism.
During this trip you will not only learn a lot about astronomy, but also about Indian culture and the origins of our own culture and language. Why did we leave India 8,000 years ago? How did the Indo-European language conquer the world? Many of the roots of our language, culture and science are no longer known to us. Discover our past, get an “orientation”! What was India’s historical contribution to astronomy? Was it a lot better in celestial science back then than it is today? Many of these exciting questions will be answered on this trip.
