NAMIBIA - ASTRO SAFARI TO THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

ASTRONOMY TOUR

INTRODUKTION

Namibia – a uniquely clear and dark sky presents the abundance of stars in the southern hemisphere. In addition to numerous astronomical observations, the travel programme offers many interesting excursions to get to know Namibia. Experience the fascinating Namib Desert, its flora and fauna, the Sossusvlei with the largest sand dunes in the world and the Atlantic coast with pelicans, flamingos, seals and dolphins on an optional 3-day tour. With the off-road vehicle there are tours to the quiver tree forest or a rhinoceros tour and, if possible, a trip to the 2347 m high Gamsberg. Due to its good observation conditions, it was acquired 35 years ago by the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy as a location for the southern observatory planned at the time.
