HOTEL PACKAGE - INDIVIDUAL

INTRODUCTION

Tadoba – Two hours south of Nagpur, lies the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, one of India’s most exciting and best protected Tiger Reserves. Undiscovered still, it is one of the few parks that are open all year round, and one with most visible tiger sightings. Dominated by teak forest and bamboo, it has a rugged landscape comprising of cliffs, caves, marshes, perennial lakes and boulder strewn streambeds that cater to a host of biodiversity. Among prominently spotted wildlife are the Tiger, Indian Leopard, Indian Wild Dog, Sloth bear, Gaur, Ratel, and a variety of mammals and over 280 species of birds including raptors like, Crested Serpent Eagle and Grey Headed Fishing Eagle.
The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve are the only protected forest in India where Tiger numbers have seen such immense growth from 88 tigers in 2018 to 115 tigers, 151 leopards in 2020. This western boundary of the Tadoba is well known for its high prey density and  with with a carnivore density of 5.23 Tiger and 6.86 Leopards per 100 sq.km.  Tadoba is special also for rare Indian Owls, like Jungle Owlet, Spotted Owlet, Indian Scops Owl, Brown Fish Owl, Mottled Wood Owl and the Great Indian Horned Owl.
TigerTrails Jungle Lodge is ringed on three sides by the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve forest. Being adjacent to the forest, the area has numerous waterholes, which have observation machans overlooking them, provided to guests for undisturbed wildlife viewing. The area is untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning guest the guarantee of privacy, as well as lovely walks and hiking trails around the lodge. While most parks have a reputation of being over crowded with lodges, TigerTrails has no neighbouring lodges or highways.
About 2 hours’ drive from Nagpur Airport.

ACTIVITIES

SAFARIS & EXPERIENCES

We are furnishing below the details of the Wildlife Viewing Experiences:

If you’re looking for a thrilling view-from-the-ground, this is your chance to discover a multitude of natural wonders in the company of your experienced safari guide. Down on the same level as the animals you will experience the untamed beauty of Tadoba. Meeting animals on their terms as a participant in their world can be far more rewarding than just spectating. Your safari guide will usually identify tracks; highlight interesting insects; talk about fascinating plants; and discuss the ecosystem in general – as well as sometimes tracking some of the larger animals. It’s a great way to appreciate the smaller wildlife, which can’t be so easily seen from a vehicle, as well as to experience the buzz of being out with the big game. You will also be accompanied by one of our Gond Scouts, who provide a wealth of information on the traditional medicinal uses of plants and tribal folklore. You will track game, unsure what waits round the next corner: Nilgai, Gaur, a pack of Wild Dogs, Sambar or even a Tiger. For the avid birdwatcher, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is home to more than 280 species.  There is a very healthy population of raptors to be seen including Changeable Hawk Eagles, breeding pairs of majestic Crested Serpent Eagles and regular sightings of Oriental Honey Buzzards and White Eyed Buzzards. Interesting birds on the Reserve include the Paradise Flycatcher only seen in the early light of dawn. The Short Toed Snake Eagle in the pale form breed well on the Reserve, while the Southern Grey Tit intrigues one with its 13 different calls.

Game drives start right from the camp itself and it is the ideal location to explore our wilderness watching wildlife at close range, but without encroaching. You can choose between a shared or a private jeep safari and can be done for half day or full day in the Tiger Reserve. Entry into the Core of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is from the Khutwanda gate which lies adjacent to the lodge and is connected to the center of the park, providing access to all park wildlife areas. This also allows for shorter drives to all park wildlife areas. Tadoba also offers its nature visitor access across its length and breadth of the park, much akin to a free range, and not just limiting its visitors to compulsory routes or zones.  The advantage this offers is an unparalleled experience across the park landscape through which only about 50 jeeps can roam. This park access provides the opportunity to maybe see every tiger that calls Tadoba its home and spreading visitors wider across its landscape. Lodge’s customized 4WD vehicles are designed to give perfect views on safari whether your quarry is Gaur, Wild dogs, Sambar Deer or our fabled predator population. Our guides’ instincts and safari experience will provide superb wildlife photography opportunities. The Lodge attracts scores of professional photo-graphers who trust the TigerTrails approach to a day on safari.  Now also explore this enticing tiger land-scape with full day photographic safaris including packed breakfast and lunch.
The stream overflowing from the Tadoba Lake flows through the center of the TigerTrails Jungle Lodge and joins the Irai Lake, adjoining the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve on the south-west boundary.  This beautiful water-body is about 51 sq. kms and has inlets, islands and bays within the jungle providing a mesmerizing vista, enhanced by the presence of the birds and wildlife coming to the edge of the water – a wonderful way of bird-watching and wildlife viewing. Our Pontoon boats move silently along the jungle’s edge and enjoying the birdlife and wildlife as it emerges across some of the most luxuriant forest tracts of the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. Our operators and guides have impeccable safety records and their guiding standards are the best on offer.
By spending time in these specially designed structures, it’s possible to find a comfortable position and wait for the perfect moment to release the shutter.  Many of our guests are avid photographers.  Apart from the photographic advantage of hides, there is also a rather unique option to spend time out of a game viewing vehicle, soaking up the overall feel.  With some hides positioned at eye-level on stretches of water, and others on busy game trails and river crossings, or perched up in trees for a bird’s eye view of the action, the possibilities are unlimited, an exciting environment where any amateur photographer can raise their game and capture the sorts of images that inspired them in the first place..  Sitting quietly and observing from these secluded vantage points gives us the purest possible experience, witnessing animal behavior as it unfolds naturally. Whatever the situation, if your timing is right, you can be sure that you’ll appreciate a vastly different experience to complement the more traditional methods of game viewing.  You may also be rewarded with that photograph of a lifetime.

SUSTAINABILITY

A conservation success story rooted in water:
In 1996, the Tadoba Stream in the Chichghat Valley bordering Tadoba Tiger Reserve only flowed during the monsoon, flooding the overgrazed, compacted farmland, devoid of its green-cover, and sweeping away topsoil. Today, the restored  Chichghat Valley landscape has been transformed into a conservation success story with five different habitats and an abundance of wildlife. The story of renewal began with water.
Initially a degraded, barren and deforested land, with stunted trees and a silted dry Tadoba Stream. With massive plantation of local forest species, recreated the natural forest, and grasslands. Four of these lakes supply water to local farmland whilst three remain exclusively for wildlife. The water table has been raised from 40 to 50 feet to 5 to 10 feet and successful channel management has meant that the monsoon rain remains in the area, instead of running off. Besides recharging under ground water table and keeping the surrounding forest green, today all the waterholes have water for all year round.

Chichghat Valley Conservancy & Employment:
When the Chichghat Valley Conservancy was established in 1996, the outlook for the youth of the village was bleak, and much like the monsoon rains flowing away from the area until our water program began, a lack of employment opportunities forced many to leave home in search of work. Today, over 125 local villagers are employed within the conservancy and its management.
