NORWAY - COUNTRY INFORMATION

There are currently no special indications. Norway is considered a safe country to travel to, but you should still observe the same precautionary rules as when staying in other, highly touristy countries.

The latest information on the security situation can always be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

Since Norway is part of the Schengen area, German and Austrian citizens only need a valid identity card or passport to enter Norway. Citizens of other nationalities should contact your Foreign Office or the respective embassy for information about the entry regulations that apply to you.
Current vaccination regulations on Covid 19 can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

Current vaccination regulations on Covid 19 can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office. According to the current status, no further vaccinations are required for entry from Germany. We recommend the usual standard vaccinations (according to the vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute) against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio (polio), possibly also against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and against influenza (flu) and pneumococci. Vaccinations against hepatitis B, TBE and rabies are also recommended for travelers. Basic medical care largely corresponds to European standards – however, there may be bottlenecks in the health care system in some areas.
CET + 1. Last Sunday in March to last Sunday in October: CET + 2 (summer time in Finland = standard time CET (winter time in Central Europe) + 2 hours). The difference to Central Europe is +1: 00 hours in both summer and winter.
In Norway, the Norwegian krone (NOK) is the unit of currency. 1 Norwegian Krone = 100 Ore. International credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. At the ATMs you can usually withdraw cash with an EC card and PIN number.
Despite the northern location, the climate in Norway is relatively mild. Along the coasts it is moderately cool and humid, in the interior it is dry and sunnier. Summers are short but sunny and warm, winters are long and cold.
For summer and spring, light clothing is usually sufficient, but transitional clothing is recommended. You should pack rainwear all year round. Warm clothing is recommended from late September to early May – lined shoes or boots are essential.
The official language is Norwegian (with the two very similar official written languages Bokmål and Nynorsk). Sami (also the official language) is spoken in northern Norway. Many Norwegians speak English, some also German and French.
The mains voltage is 220 volts, alternating current (50 Hertz). It is not necessary to take an adapter with you, but it makes sense as the normal plugs do not always fit.
The area code for long-distance calls from Germany to Norway is 0047, if you want to call from Norway to Germany, you have to dial the area code 0049. There are public phone booths in Norway, most of which work with phone cards. Emergency numbers: You dial the Europe-wide emergency number 112 for the police, emergency services (also 113) and the fire brigade.
Most of the shops (banks and authorities) are open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Large shopping centers are usually open longer and continuously. The opening times differ in the different areas, as they can be freely selected.
